The Englishman’s Retreat first opened its doors on October 1st 2007. The concept was realized and built by the current owners Ornuma and Glyn. The guest house comprises of 8 double rooms, a studio apartment and a self contained 2 bedroom apartment.

The whole feel of the place is very private. One guest actually said he felt he was staying in a private villa, referring to the way his room opened on to the swimming pool terrace, and how he couldn’t hear the coming-and-going of other residents, like that of larger hotels.

Being run and managed by the owners, who also live within the complex, you will find a more professional and personal feel to the attention you receive during your stay. “it’s much easier to take care of 10 people than it is to care for 200”, says Ornuma.

The bar and restaurant has a very relaxed feel, and being pool-side its naturally cooler than other outside eateries. Service here is second to none, after-all we didn't name this place 'The Retreat' for name-sake. The food is always prepared to perfection, but please don't take our word for it, just check out our customer comments.

The menu has been purposely kept simple, Ornuma states “it’s better to have a small selection prepared good than a large selection prepared bad”. The prices are also very reasonable, and that goes for the drinks as well. Where else can you get a Full-English Breakfast for 99bt or a large bottle of beer for just 50bt?

All rooms come with their own private bathroom & hot water. The rooms are spacious and have plenty of storage space. The beds are queen-size, and every room has cable TV (20 English channels), a well priced and well stocked mini-bar, and a wi-fi internet connection.

Fitness Center

The layout of the gym was designed long before it was built, ensuring a wide selection of equipment would fit into what is relatively a small area. The multi-gyms and weight stands have all been custom made to Glyn’s specification, allowing optimum arrangement with incline/decline positions, and almost zero friction pulley machines.

Swimming Pool

 The pool is 15 meters long, making it ideal for exercising.

The pool was purposely made shallow, only 1.2 meters both ends, to allow the water to warm up quicker on cold mornings. It also means guests can relax and cool off in any part of the pool without the need to tread-water.

Membership

 Residents of Udon Thani can take advantage of our leisure facilities by joining our Members-only Leisure Club. It’s very low-cost at only 400bt per month. If you are a die-hard keep-fit fanatic you can purchase an annual membership for just 4000bt, that’s a 20% saving.

If your spouse wants to take up memebership at the same time as you, he/she will be given a 50% discount, paying only 200bt per month or 2,000bt per annum.

Children must be accompanied by their parents and pay just 20bt per day if they use the swimming pool, under 16’s will not be permitted to use the fitness centre
