Probably the cleanest and friendliest place that we stayed throughout our journey of SE Asia. Prices good, for the quality of room and there's a pool too! Only complaint: the full English breakfast only had one sausage.

The bar prices and the food served was fabulous and I would recommend this place to anyone without hesitation. The guest house has their own website and everything it says on the website is true.

I liked everything, the rooms - small but everything you need; the facilities - clean pool and well equiped gym, the food small selection but always prepared efficiently and tasty; the staff - professional and friendly.

Hey Glyn - how you and the misses doing at your place? You have a nice retreat there, so if anyone is looking for a nice relaxing and quiet atmosphere, good food, and friendly people then The Englishman's Retreat is the place.

I really liked the place. The gym is small but has all you need and the pool is big enough to do some laps in. The cost is a great deal less than other gyms around town. Glyn is more than willing to give any instruction or tips required as he is very knowledgeable on the subject. Nice people, cheap bar and free pool table, what more could a man want?

I at the second time of trying, I found this place, it was however, worth the effort, there is a well stocked bar, the prices must be amongst the cheapest in Udon. They have a little bit of a limited menu at present, but the menu does state, that it is a temporary menu, I had the all day English Breakfast, at a cost of 99 baht, I certainly found it to be value for money it was well presented, plenty of it, and well cooked!

Glyn & Orn, were very hospitable, and took the bother to show us around, everywhere we went, was spotless.
The rooms are very well presented and value for the rates charged. I would say that this is the place to go with the Thai Wife or Girlfriend, and family, and I can see it becoming the "In Place".

Decent atmospere, decent food, decently priced drinks, decent gym, decent pool, and lastly a decent host, what more do you want!! Best of luck on your new venture Glyn and Orn, see you again soon

Last week we stayed 4 days in the Englishman's Retreat Guest House, 400 baht a night; the rooms were big and very nice. Glyn is really a nice guy and very helpful, second bonus; his wife is very beautiful!! It's a nice place to stay. They are just starting up, so there are still some minor things to do, but overall; it's worth the money for sure. Next time in Udon I'll go to this guesthouse again.

My wife and I have just spent the last 3 weeks at The Englishman's Retreat, and I would just like to thank Glyn, Orn and the staff for making our stay a pleasant one. We hired the Honda Jazz a couple of times plus the Yamaha Mio. We tried most of the meals on the menu, and hit the bar a bit. Everything was very good, not expensive, and I would recommend it to anyone. All the best and see you next time.
