Golfing in Udon Thani
Golf is one of the most popular sports in Thailand. The game arrived in the country a century ago and was quickly taken up by the elite and the fashionable. Among the first sponsors of the game were the armed forces and government institutions, which built and continue to own some of the finest courses in the country.
There are over 200 high standard golf courses throughout Thailand, many of them championship standard. The world’s top designers have made a significant contribution. Jack Nicklaus, Robbert Trent Jones Jr, Pete De Gar and many others have perfected modern layouts, using the best grasses and latest techniques.
The nearest 18 hole course from the guesthouse is Victory Park, 35kms away. An excellent course, it's hard to stipulate prices because they are forever doing package discount deals, but generally expect to pay around 1100bt including Caddy & Cart.
Udon Thani has four golf courses, all are 9 holes: Sirithani Forest (12kms - from hotel), Wing 22 (7kms away), Udon Golf Club & Resort (10kms), and finaly Nong Sam-rong Golf Course which is right on the doorstep of the hotel, and literally a 10 minute stroll to the club house.
Nong-Sam-Rong Golf Course, Udon Thani
This 9 hole, 33 par course is owned and maintained by the local Military, and is constantly being updated. It's a very small course but made difficult by the vast amount of water surrounding every green.
